Paintball Guns

The original paintball guns (circa 1970's) were not intended for use in combat games. Instead, these guns were developed for use by ranchers and the forestry service as a means of marking livestock and trees; a service for which they were well suited. However, in the early 1980's, a group of friends in New Hampshire envisioned a completely different use for these guns, and the sport of paintball was introduced to the world.

Today, paintball guns are available in dozens of different sizes and styles. The most common, and generally least expensive, are the pistol varieties that can be purchased for around 100 dollars or so. These are often the guns that are first purchased by novice paintballers that want to try their hand at this fast-paced game. However, as often happens once one gains a serious interest in an activity, players usually upgrade to the more high-tech varieties fairly quickly.

While simple pistols are a great way to get started, there are some much more sophisticated paintball guns available to players today. Early guns, for instance, were often either single-shot, or needed a pump in order to shoot multiple rounds quickly. Modern guns, by comparison, can be found in single-shot, semi-automatic, fully automatic, and can even be found in bow-and-arrow designs.
