There are many, many different paintball games that can be played using the same basic equipment. Furthermore, the rules to each of these games can vary considerably depending on your location and even the other players involved. In fact, players will often agree on a customized set of rules for a given game before play begins.

One of the first paintball games to gain in popularity was a variation on the classic "capture the flag" game. Essentially, this game is played by placing flags at opposite sides of a field or other gaming area; with the goal being to capture your opponent's flag and bring it back to your home base without being "shot". And as previously mentioned, the rules governing how this can be accomplished can vary from game to game.

Another of the more popular paintball games is usually referred too as "Total Elimination". As the name implies, the goal of this game is to "kill" everyone on the opposing team, and the last team to have a member still standing, wins. This game is especially fun for the novice that simply wants to go out and shoot people.
